Hi! Welcome back to the Tsawout Missions Trip blog! It's been a year since we posted, and this year, we've changed a few things, and added some more content to keep you updated with not only our daily activities, but also some more information on the team as well! We hope you will enjoy reading about our week!

Day 1 - Big Grins and Warm Hugs

If you drive into the Tsawout Reserve, after a minute of driving on your right you see a white building with a large sign:

 “Tsawout Assembly of Praise”
        “Everyone Welcome”

It was really clear that at the Tsawout Assembly of Praise, everyone is truly welcomed. Our group arrived to Pastor Moses, inviting us in with a big grin. He met every volunteer with a handshake.

Standing behind, was Ben, who also greeted us with hugs and kind words. Just as little Isaac came running out of the house, excited to see the familiar faces.

While we were waiting for service to start, we had some free time. We spent that time just hanging out with some of the neighbors, who have been eagerly waiting for our arrival. The service began with some passionate worship, followed by thanksgiving and heart-warming testimonies by the members of the Tsawout community. After Pastor Moses asked for prayer requests, we went into a time of prayer.

We were touched by how they prayed and we really felt their open-heartedness and the support they had for each other. This inspires us to look deeper into what it means to pray as not only a church, but as a community.

Meet the Team!

Today we interviewed one of our awesome volunteers helping out this year!

Interviewer: “What’s your Name?”

Interviewee: “Joanna Wing-Ken Tong”

Interviewer: “How old are you?”

Joanna: “17”

Interviewer: “What’s your favourite colour?”

Joanna: “Golden or Mustard Yellow, I love that colour.”

Interviewer: “What’s your go-to McDonalds order?”

Joanna: “Oh I don’t eat McDonalds, okokok fine I like to order a Strawberry Banana Smoothie because it makes me feel healthy, but also I like Oreo McFlurry”

Interviewer: “‘Earnest Ice-cream’ or ‘Rain or Shine’”

Joanna: “Earnest Ice-cream”

Joanna: “Oh, oh…. Let’s see… fanny packs... okay… umm… I think…ughhh…. OKAY if you….i don’t know how to- I don’t really like it. Okay personally I don’t like it, just leave it at that.”

Joanna: “3 years”

Joanna: “Hearing other peoples experiences and my love for VBS brought me to Tsawout.”

Interviewer: “What keeps you coming back?”

Joanna: “At first I didn’t want to come back, because I didn’t know anyone, but the second year, they began to have small groups to help the volunteers bond, which helped me get to know others and feel more comfortable with the team. That year I met new people at Tsawout, and formed great friendships, which draws me back to them every year.”

Interviewer: “Have you set yourself any goals for this week? What are they?”

Joanna: “Yeah! To meet new people, and deepen my past relationships.”

Interviewer: "Thanks for letting us interview you!"

Joanna: "Hahaha no problem!"
