Day 2- Berry Madness
Day 2- Berry Madness
After what seemed like an
eternity of the ever constant snoring, our busy week was off to a start. After
quickly finishing our delicious breakfast of scrambled eggs and sausages, the
kids started to trickle in. This year, we partnered up with the community
center camp down the road for the whole week so we waited for their group to
parade down to the church. Like clockwork, the group marched towards us, their
voices lifting up our spirits as they drew closer. Sporting their brand new VBS
t-shirts, the kids rushed to join us with overwhelming excitement. We all gathered
in the sanctuary and began worship.
We learned about our memory verse for the week, as well as our Bible Point of the day, which was "God made you to trust Him. LIVE IT OUT!"
Once we finished, each of the groups – jellyfish, wolves, and eagles, split up into their different stations – Games, Bible Adventures, and Crafts.

Once we finished lunch, we paired
off and made our way down the road, buckets in hand. The kids, who knew the
best places to pick berries, expertly guided us to the best black berry bushes
(I love alliteration!)
After we had filled our baskets
to the brim, we started to head back to the church where we closed with
worship.
While we were picking berries
with the kids, we realized how easily pleased they can be. They find joy in the
things that we take for granted. Although we say kids can be foolish, they live
life in the most innocent way. They don’t overthink situations and they say and
do whatever feels right to them. Sometimes we get caught up with the crazy
stuff happening in our lives and we forget about the bigger picture, but
sometimes we just have to trust that God is with us, because God made us to Trust Him! LIVE IT OUT!
Meet the Team!
Today we interviewed another one of our volunteers that are helping out this year!
Interviewer: “What’s your Name?”
Interviewee: “Eunice Wing See Wong”
Interviewer: “How old are you?”
Eunice: “19.”
Interviewer: “What’s your favourite colour?”
Eunice: “Umm maybe like pale pink… What do you mean why??!!”
Interviewer: “What’s your go-to McDonald’s order?”
Eunice: “I don’t like going to McDonald’s (awkward stare)”
Micaela: “What do you mean you don’t like Mcdonald's?”
Eunice: “I rarely go to Mcdonald’s.”
Micaela: “I can't imagine my life without Mcdonald's.. I would just be aela without the mic.”
Interviewer: “‘Earnest Ice-cream’ or ‘Rain or Shine’”?
Eunice: “Earnest Ice-cream, it’s so much creamier than Rain or Shine.”
Flora: “mphhm ohhkkdsfanjfdl”
*”takes out toothbrush*
Flora: “But like blueberry balsamic is so good.”
Eunice: “That’s true also the but the rhubarb oatmeal crumble is also really good.”
Interviewer: “Okay back on topic guys.”
Interviewer: “What are your thoughts on fanny packs?”
Eunice: “What? Um.. I’m not gonna say it.. I guess they’re convenient and good for travelling.”
Micaela: “What do you think of them as a fashion statement?”
Eunice: “I think it’s weird I’m sorry…”
Interviewer: “How many years have you volunteered at Tsawout?”
Eunice: “This is my third year.”
Interviewer: “What brought you to Tsawout?”
Eunice: “Hmmm let me think firs- DON'T WRITE THAT DOWN! dOn'T WRITE THAT DOWN.
I always heard about other people's testimonies about Tsawout and they all seemed very impactful so I wanted to go there and see it for myself and also because it was something outside my comfort zone and something I don’t see in my everyday life.. Basically I wanted to get outside my comfort zone.”
Interviewer: “What keeps you coming back?”
Eunice: “Umm. I guess forming those first friendships during that first year and wanting to come back and catch up with their life and see how they’ve grown and something about the community draws me back and i want to impact the kids life in whatever way I can.”
Interviewer: “Have you set yourself any goals for this week? What are they?”
Eunice: “Ummm, yeah. To be intentional with my interactions with the kids, to not be afraid to bring up God in our conversations and try to bring up their personal life, and to make sure that crafts don't go chaotic hahahahahahahahaha."
