Tsawout Summer Trip 2018 - Day 6
First and foremost, I would like to thank everybody on the Tsawout 2018 Team as well as the people of Tsawout.
The last day is always the saddest one, however this year it was also tiring. A majority of the team had stayed up late playing card games, drawing on one of the team members and stargazing. This was the first year we had run a VBS on the last day so suffice to say, we were all tired.
Before we started the actual VBS, we had an inflatable obstacle course as well as human hamster balls in the gym of the Band Office. We had tons of fun playing with the kids
We had one last jam session, this one by far got the kids the most hyped up
For crafts, we basically had yearbook signing
The kids learned about how Saul became Paul in Bible Adventures
After we said our goodbyes, we were on our way back to Vancouver, unfortunately, we had missed the ferry we were planning on taking so we ended up chilling at Swartz Bay for about an hour
This year we had a lot of new team members who have never been to Tsawout or done VBS at Tsawout. I wanted to see things from their perspective, here's what they had to say:
"Going into this I wasn't too sure what to expect. I've heard many stories about Tsawout VBS but it was different each time I asked someone, since no two experience were the same. When I signed up for the trip my "goal" was to know more about the people there and get to know more names since, the first time I went was in the winter but there weren't as many kids and the trip was shorter.
I was put as crafts head for this trip which meant I had to buy materials and plan some crafts. But because this was my first Tsawout VBS I didn't know what to expect so I had some worries of "what if this doesn't go well", "what if the kids hate the crafts" and thoughts like that. Because of that on the first full day I felt that my mindset wasn't in the right place, that my main focus wasn't on the kids. [I prayed about it with my small group and talked to some people about it, i'm very thankful to them because it eased my mind.
starting from the next day I tried to get more one on one talks with the children there, even though my conversational skills were -10 sometimes. Luckily I could feel myself easing up each day after. On Friday(our last day there) I was able to see the results of my efforts. The kids I had one on one conversations(and a few others i don't even remember introducing myself to) came up to me and hugged me goodbye, one girl had asked me to come back during the winter and next summer. Which I was surprised about because to be honest I though 2 people would remember my name. To others that number probably sound really small but that's what i honestly believed since the never really addressed my by my name until the last day. But yeah, overall I did learn many things about the community there and I'm looking forward to the next time I go."
This marks the end of our 2018 Summer trip, tune in during December for more!

Before worship, we had a dance off which somehow turned into a handshake battle

Big thanks to Photo/Blog Team of 2018
We didn't have time for a group photo so I just photoshopped myself into a photo with them. |
