OTCH (Operation Tsawout Christmas Hampers)
On January 2nd, a small group of 14 volunteers set out on a day trip to Tsawout to deliver our annual Christmas hampers. The volunteers delivered hampers full of toothbrushes, soap, canned foods, juice, instant noodles, and other necessities to 25 homes. This small but dedicated team set out bright and early before the sun was out to spend as much time as possible with the children we had met the summer before; many we had kept in constant contact with. Whether it was the first time we had met the kids or campers since the beginning, we were in awe of how much the children had grown. Everyone was taller and had grown physically and mentally. It breaks our heart to know that some of these children are mature beyond their ages- not always by choice.
We spent the day just hanging out with the kids, providing lunch and reconnecting. There was no doubt that we missed the kids, the real surprise was just how much. We learned there is no substitute for being present. No text messages or Facebook wall posts will ever replace being at Tsawout. We remain humbled and gracious to have had the opportunity to visit. Through God's love and provision, we were able to put together hampers and deliver them to families in need. The team is constantly reminded of God's goodness and love for this broken community. We feel so blessed to have had the chance to visit, even just for the day, and humbled that God chose us to be His servants.
Below are a few pictures taken from our day trip. Be blessed!
For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6
